In this posthumous biography, Purdy writes about his family, his early days in the Ukiah Valley where he became interested in wild flowers, seeds, and bulbs, and his experiences as a teacher in Cottonneva Creek and Hopland, and as a professional landscaper. He recounts rural life in an earlier time, of ranch work and picking hops, threshing wheat, and cutting cord wood. Readers will enjoy Purdy’s portrayals of his friendships with Gavin McNab, Luther Burbank, John Muir, and John McLaren.
